If building a Kransekake tree, you will need a set of Kransekake cookie cutters. We used Williams Sonoma kransekake cookie cutter set. Instead of leveraging the dough to make two trees, we doubled them up to make a taller, fuller cookie tree.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups butter, softened
1 2/3 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon salt
5 cups flour
8 tablespoons cocoa powder
Preparation
In a large mixing bowl cream sugar and butter together mixing in eggs and vanilla extract.
Add salt.
Alternate between adding in 1 cup of flour and 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder until all is mixed in, dough should be an even and rich brown color.
Divide dough into four even balls, cover and let chill for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Roll out dough and cut to desired shapes, place on a parchment lined baking sheet
Bake for 12-14 minutes, and place on wire rack to cool.
