Ingredients
4 large Granny Smith apples, cored and cut into thick slices
1/3 cup sugar
2-3 tablespoons lemon juice, fresh
3/4 teaspoon nutmeg, ground
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves, ground
2 tablespoons butter, unsalted
1/3 cup maple syrup
1 cup cranberries, dried
1/2 pound bacon, chopped
Preparation
In a bowl, mix the apple, sugar, lemon juice, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. Set aside.
In a large heavy skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crisp. Remove the bacon and let drain on paper towels.
Add the apples to the bacon drippings and butter into the skillet and sauté over medium high heat for about 8 minutes. Add in the maple syrup and cranberries and continue to cook another couple of minutes.
Transfer the apples and all the juices to a large bowl or platter and top with reserved bacon. Serve warm.
