Caution: The following article is written tongue firmly in cheek, where Sheila cannot easily get to it.
At The Food Channel, we like to stay on top of the latest trends in food—including the newest diet craze.
So when the Santa Clarita diet started making headlines, of course we had to check it out.
We’re talking about the streaming Netflix series entitled, of all things, Santa Clarita Diet. It’s about a realtor (played by Drew Barrymore) who becomes “undead,” and how she begins to sustain herself on a steady diet of humans. Oh, sure, it starts out innocently enough with raw hamburger . . . but it escalates quickly to entrails and limbs.
There is a lot of relationship stuff here, but what we care about is the food. Do certain body parts have more nutrition than others? Does she eat the skin or peel it off? And, most importantly, does she lose weight on this diet?
In the series, the heroine (if she can be labeled that), Sheila, targets her meals based on her own likes and dislikes, so to speak—which is basically what we all do when choosing our food. As we thought about it in our own Culinary Center, it occurred to us that this diet just may be a way to tackle two problems at once: hunger, and irritability.
That’s why we’ve created recipes called:
Mother-in-Law Wagging Finger Sandwiches
Crispy Basement Dweller (Pork) Belly
Not that we had anyone particular in mind, of course.
For those who want to check it out (which, to be clear, we DON’T recommend), our original recipes might help if you plan to adopt the Santa Clarita diet.
Let us know how that works out for you.
